Overview
The VPS platform is designed to provide reliable, high-performance virtual machines within a shared, highly available environment. To preserve stability, security, and predictable behavior, certain configurations and use cases are intentionally not supported.
This article outlines those limitations so expectations are clear before deployment.
Unsupported Virtualization Features
The following virtualization features are not supported:
-
Nested virtualization
-
Running hypervisors inside an instance
-
Emulating or exposing additional virtualization extensions
⚠️ Important
Workloads requiring nested virtualization should be deployed on dedicated servers.
Kernel & Low-Level OS Restrictions
The platform does not support:
-
Custom kernels
-
Modified or unsupported kernels
-
Kernel debugging or tracing features that require hypervisor access
???? Advanced
These restrictions exist to ensure compatibility with live migration, HA, and recovery tooling.
Network-Level Restrictions
The following networking behaviors are not supported:
-
MAC address spoofing
-
ARP manipulation
-
Custom L2 networking behavior
-
Customer-managed hypervisor firewall rules
Firewall configuration must be handled inside the operating system.
⚠️ Important
Network-level behavior that impacts other instances or platform stability may be restricted without notice.
Operating System Limitations
The platform does not support:
-
End-of-life (EOL) operating systems
-
Operating systems no longer receiving security updates
-
Unsupported or unmaintained distributions
Instances running unsupported operating systems may experience:
-
Limited platform functionality
-
Inability to live migrate
-
Best-effort or declined support
API & Automation Limitations
At this time:
-
No public API is available for instance lifecycle management
-
All management actions must be performed via the client portal
-
Automation requiring direct hypervisor access is not supported
???? Advanced
API access may be introduced in the future but is not currently available or documented.
Use Cases That May Be Restricted
The following use cases may be restricted or terminated at FDCServers’ discretion:
-
Network abuse
-
Activities that destabilize shared infrastructure
-
Circumventing platform limitations
-
Sustained behavior that negatively impacts other customers
Traffic patterns that negatively impact the platform may be restricted without notice.
When a Dedicated Server Is a Better Fit
You should consider a dedicated server if you require:
-
Custom kernels
-
Nested virtualization
-
Full control over networking
-
Non-standard OS configurations
-
Guaranteed CPU resources
-
Custom hypervisor or low-level tooling
Summary
-
Certain features are intentionally unsupported to preserve platform stability
-
OS, kernel, and networking limitations apply to all instances
-
Abuse or destabilizing behavior may be restricted without notice
-
Dedicated servers are available for workloads that exceed VPS constraints
Understanding these limitations helps ensure the VPS platform is used as intended and avoids unexpected restrictions or support issues.
